Carol Schneider is a writer, actor, and audiobook narrator with a love of all things historical.

Carol’s adaptation of Maria Coletta McLean’s celebrated memoir, MY FATHER CAME FROM ITALY is currently in development in Toronto and Rome, Italy.  Tony Shalhoub is signed on to play the lead and Take5 Productions (VIKINGS, HANDMAID’S TALE) is set as production house.  Her full-length play, CLERC’S INFERNO  (previously Movements of the Soul), has workshopped in London twice with Dreamatorium Theatre, having received numerous grants including two from  Arts Counsel England grants and several from the Wiener Philanthropy Fund. In America,  CI had workshops in NYC with assistance from New York Theatre Workshop, HERE Arts Center, Lexington School for the Deaf and Shakespeare & Company.  Schneider’s short plays have been seen at Berkshire Playwrights Lab.  The audio anthology, Nevertheless We Persisted: Me Too, featuring her essay, “I’ll Take the Usual”, won the 2019 Voice Arts Award, an Audiofile Earphones Award, and was nominated for a 2020 Audie Award.  THE FAVOURED SON is the  first novel in a series.

As an actor, she’s  worked on Broadway (Vivian Beaumont, Lincoln Center), Off Broadway (Mitzi Newhouse LCT, Ensemble Studio Theatre & Samuel Beckett Theatre), in regional theatres (Hartford Stage, Penguin Rep., Charlotte Rep.), and feature films and independent films which premiered at Sundance, Tribeca Film Festival and Slam Dance. She trained at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Circle-In-the-Square Theatre School, (Paulette Goddard Remarque Fellow), Writers Bootcamp, Interlochen Arts Academy (Young Artists Award).  She is a lifetime member of the Actors Studio. 

 

Carol lives in upstate Manhattan with her son, actor Sam McCarthy, and husband and partner, director Joe Cacaci.
